The Journal of Business Research applies theory developed from business research to actual business situations. Recognizing the intricate relationships between the many areas of business activity, JBR examines a wide variety of business decisions, processes and activities within the actual business setting. Theoretical and empirical advances in buyer behavior, finance, organizational theory and behavior, marketing, risk and insurance and international business are evaluated on a regular basis. Published for executives, researchers and scholars alike, the Journal aids the application of empirical research to practical situations and theoretical findings to the reality of the business world.

This blind-reviewed journal welcomes the work of all authors across branches of knowledge. First published in 1964 as a journal that concentrated on the New York economy, but it rapidly evolved to focus on business research that favors the practical and applicative side of inquiry. Beginning in 2019, the journal aspires to publish original work that engages with the role and impact of risk and/or uncertainty in business decision-making and/or on society.
The journal is open to all research methodologies and writing styles. The journal requires, however, a logical and clearly demonstrated connection between evidence and inferences.
The journal is not a profit-making endeavor. It has no submission fee. It is supported by voluntary contributions and donors.
The journal rewards good scholarship with two annual "Best Published Paper" awards currently each accompanied by an honorarium of $2,500. One award is for papers that engage with the role/impact of risk and/or uncertainty in business decision-making. The other award is for papers that engage with the role/impact of risk and/or uncertainty on society.
The journal’s full text is indexed on UMI/PROQUEST (Global Collection) and EBSCO (Business Source Primer). Recent issues of the journal are available at no charge on IgnitEd. The Main Library of St. John’s University in New York maintains a complete archive of the journal. The journal is published, in hard copy, in January and June.
